Bags are invading!!!

Recently my grandmother gave me the idea to make bags. She had come home from church one Sunday with the idea due to the bag she had taken with her that day. She had gotten many compliments on it. I agreed to it.
During high school I did a project having to do with sewing bags. This is something I am confident I have good skills in, so I thought, "Why not?"(It's a lot easier then tying all of those knots in the floss bracelets too.)

So, CurrySnaps will be adding bags to our products. I hope with adding this, our business will start to grow.

Sales Tax and Shipping!!!!

Normally there is nothing to be fond of when you hear the word sales tax or shipping, but, for those running businesses, it is a necessary evil. As I have mentioned before, I have been having troubles with figuring out how and what to charge. For shipping, it would end up costing anywhere from twice as much as an item to half as much, which anyone trying to save money knows is way too much. No one would want to buy anything if they're getting slammed with ridiculous shipping rates. Then there was the sales tax. What do I charge, or do I even have to charge it? The answer for you customers it unfortunately, yes I do have to collect sales tax. But don't worry, it's no more then you have to pay on anything you buy in a store. The sales tax collected will be the same total amount of state, county, and local tax the stores you shop at charge you. Me on the other hand, I have to do a bit of work to sell things locally. So for now I'm keeping to online selling until I can get my license to collect sales tax in New Mexico.

Scotch tape for bracelets?

I have been continuing to experiment with techniques to make better nicer looking bracelets an I think i have finally found my favorite trick. Scotch tape. Yes, you heard right, tape. Use it to align the strings in a straight row. The sides of the bracelet I'm working on are almost perfect. It's beautiful.

Getting off to a slow start

I know I've been saying I'm going to get items up on the site for the past few days, but I am having problems with coming up with proper shipping prices. Also I am going to have to set up sales tax before hand. As soon as I get these two problems worked out, I'll have things up for sale. I hope to do business with some of you.

St. Patrick's day is coming!

While the next big holiday for the United States is actually President's Day, I am really sad to say I won't have enough time to make any USA themed bracelets.  Well, if I have no time for President's Day, why not the next biggest holiday. St. Patrick's Day. Everyone knows you shouldn't be caught not wearing green, and for those who forget to will be doomed to that dreaded pinch. So why don't we all plan ahead. Me to make them, and you to be prepared to wear green.

Floss Bracelets a.k.a Friendship Bracelets

If you have ever made floss bracelets in school as a child, you might or might not have been or are curious about where they originated from. Floss bracelets come from Native Americans in South and Central America. According to their traditions, when you tie one on the wrist of one of your friends you can make a wish. Originally it was to be worn till it fell off on its own, and at the time it falls off, the wish is supposed to come true.

Why buy and wear hemp and floss jewelry?

There are many reason to choose fibers as apposed to metal, but the biggest reason is allergies. 1 in four women who have worn or wear jewelry are allergic to metals, myself included, and is more common in women then in men. The most common metal to cause an allergic reaction is nickel. Nickel is even usually the reason behind break outs from 14k gold, do to its mixed content. It is rare, but possible to also be allergic to the pure 24k gold its self. So if you find yourself wanting to wear nice jewelry but allergic to most metal, why not try hemp or floss jewelry?

Another Bracelet Finally Finished

This bracelet was made with a pattern for mini hearts. It was a very simple one and I liked making it. I do need more practice and plan I to make more in different colours.

Paopu Fruit? I think so.

Patterns

I've been looking for patterns for making floss bracelets this week and I have found some nice ones. My top two favorites that I found happen to be a Rainbow Dash themed bracelet and a Domo-kun bracelet.

Experimintation

Right now I am experimenting with 10lb weight thread, which is thinner then the normal hemp thread used for knotting. Normally the weight used would be 20lb. I like the way it looks so far, but it seems i have to be careful how much tension I put on the thread when making knots. It is much easier to see the difference between tighter and looser knots then with the thicker threads.

My first piece, soon up for sale, would you buy it?

Here is the first piece I have made specifically for the purpose of my jewelry business. It's a hemp thread, made with a simple square knot and a bead closure. Tell me what you think. Would you buy it? The price for this is about $4-$5. Would you pay this much? Please leave a comment.
